Director Corporate Services
Waratah-Wynyard Council serves a community of approximately 14,000 residents across one of Tasmania’s most distinctive regions — the north-west coast, where agriculture, aquaculture, and small manufacturing intersect with a strong sense of place and a community that values how it is governed. Based in Wynyard, just outside Burnie and within easy reach of the broader Cradle Coast region, Council is a stable, well-led organisation seeking a Director Corporate Services to join the Executive Leadership Team.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director Corporate Services leads an effective and compact team consisting of Council’s governance, human resources, information services, customer service, and property functions.

The portfolio brings together the disciplines that underpin organisational integrity: governance frameworks and Audit Panel support, workforce strategy and industrial relations, IT and cybersecurity, customer service delivery, and property and lease management. A distinctive feature of the role is the IT shared services arrangement with neighbouring Circular Head Council.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director contributes to Council’s strategic direction, advises the CEO and elected members on matters of governance, risk, and people, and helps lead the organisation as a whole.

About You
You are an existing executive or aspiring senior manager with substantive leadership experience in a complex, multidisciplinary organisation, ideally within local government or a comparable public-sector environment.

You bring specialist depth in either people and culture or information technology — and you have the breadth of judgement to lead the wider corporate services portfolio that surrounds it, including governance, risk, customer service, and property.

You hold a strong working understanding of the obligations that sit with executive local government roles, including governance, risk management, audit, work health and safety, and the legislative framework. You lead with integrity, you give clear and evidence-based advice, and you build the kind of team culture that attracts and retains capable people.
Tertiary qualifications in business, public administration, human resources, information technology, law, or a related discipline are required.

Why This Role
For an experienced corporate services leader, this is a genuine opportunity to take an Executive role in a stable Tasmanian council with a clear strategic direction, an innovative CEO, and a community that values quality public administration. North-west Tasmania offers a quality of life and pace of work that is increasingly hard to find.
