Capstone Recruitment NZ is proud to partner exclusively with Auckland Airport in their search for a Senior Project Manager Director to help the delivery of the Terminal Enabling Works programme.
 
About the role  
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the successful design, procurement, delivery of significant complex projects ensuring they meet specified scope, schedule, cost, quality, operational needs and delivery to the airports airport’s strategic priorities while safeguarding operational continuity and delivering integrated outcomes, safely, on time on budget and to quality
  As a key player within the Programme the Senior Project Manager provides management of the project and functional teams, as well as being a key contributor the overall culture, success, integration and delivery of the programme and infrastructure portfolio.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to multidisciplinary embedded cross functional (delivery, commercial, controls, design & engineering, health & safety) project teams, ensuring that AKL’s values are at the core of everything we do.
  • Act as a key player in the management, coordination and delivery of the programme, fostering strong alignment, consistency, collaboration, integration and accountability across the programme, providing clear leadership and reinforcing a high-performance, team-based culture.
  • Lead the delivery of projects throughout the whole project lifecycle, ensuring achievement of intended benefits and outcomes
  • Accountable for ensuring the proactive, robust and diligent management of contracts, commercials, schedule, procurement, scope, cost, quality, risk, safety, stakeholder engagement, and environmental performance.
  • Accountable for championing high performance and a strong Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture within AKL and our consultants and contractors.
  • Proactively plan for and manage project interfaces, interdependencies with other projects, programmes, as well as operational and customer requirements and constraints. promoting enterprise-wide, best-for-business outcomes
  • Ensure robust control of the projects through proactive and effective management of cost, cashflow, budget, forecast, payment, variations, claims, baseline and forecast schedules, risk registers, QRA & QSRA, change and quality
  • Accountable for construction delivery management including site possession, permitting, method statements, safety, logistics, resource and materials plans, progress, risks and issues management, testing and commissioning and operational readiness.
  • Responsible for maintaining key stakeholder relationships and ensuring key internal and external stakeholders are engaged, consulted and communicated with in accordance with Stakeholder Engagement and Communications plans
  • Ensure projects are actively managing and controlling the requirements, scope and design. Management of design consultants and key stakeholder inputs to AKL’s requirements ensuring design deliverables are monitored and delivered in a timely and integrated manner to Auckland Airport design standards and contractual obligations.
  • Lead strategic contractor and consultant management, particularly of commercial claims to protect the airport’s position and resolve contractual matters effectively to support best for enterprise outcomes
What you’ll bring to the role

To ensure your success in this role, you will need: 
  • To be a motivated, experienced, values driven collaborative leader who thrives in complex, fast paced delivery environments and relishes the challenges that come with integrated infrastructure delivery including mitigating risk and continual improvement
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, Science or Management.
  • 10-15 years’+ experience in project management
  • 5 years + experience as a Project Manager for complex infrastructure. 
  • Previous experience with complex brownfield interfacing projects at various stages of the project lifecycle would be highly advantageous such as major healthcare or railway infrastructure or similar.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of project delivery and construction.
  • Proven people leader with the ability to lead and manage professional, operational, technical and trades staff and contractors  
  • Ability to both think and act efficiently in a changing and complex environment with project-specific objectives in mind  
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage optimal outcomes from diverse and sometimes conflicting priorities    
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including working with Senior Management, C-Suite Executives and Boards of Directors.
